Canadian Heather Wurtele executed a near-perfect race plan to win her second consecutive Ironman St. George. Heather and her husband Trevor spent the last several weeks living and training in St George, so she was extremely comfortable with the course and the conditions. She gave up some time on the swim but was patient and waited until the last 45 miles of the bike to move towards the lead. Once on the run, there was no stopping her. She grabbed the lead at mile 5 and never looked back, winning by more than 36 minutes and setting a new course record of 9:30:33.
