The LUNA Team once again dominated the Pro Women’s field at the third round of the US Pro Tour in Pelham, AL.
Despite the small field, all the heavy hitters were in attendance. After the first kilometer it was Georgia, Catharine, and Katerina leading the charge with cyclocross star Katie Compton sitting in
4th. Katerina crashed on an uphill technical section leaving the three riders alone off the front. Katie Compton had a severe asthma attack after 3 1/2 laps, causing her to drop out and catch a ride in an ambulance to the ER. Georgia and Catharine were left to duke it out for the win. Coming down the last paved descent, Georgia led it out, giving Catharine a much needed draft. Even though the girls are teammates, they both wanted to win. Catharine jumped around Georgia, took an aggressive line through the final turn, and held off Georgia in a sprint finish. It was her first US Pro Tour win. Katerina finished in 3rd, completing the LUNA sweep. Georgia’s second place maintains her lead in the overall standings.
The riders head home for a weekend of local racing before converging on Colorado Springs, CO for the next round of the US Pro Tour on June 12-13th.
